What is Nectar, how does it work, where do I collect and spend points?

With Nectar you can collect points on most of your purchases with us. Sit back and watch them mount up the more you shop. Save up enough points and you’ll be able to treat yourself to something you’ll enjoy!

Points collected on general shopping can take up to 48 hours to appear on your account. Bonus points and offers may take up to 28 days to be added.

You can also check your receipt for your points balance. If you're shopping in a store for the first time, your balance won't appear on any receipts until 24 hours after your first shop at that store.

Points issued by our Careline may take up to 72 hours to appear.

FAQs

How can I collect and spend my points in store?

Collect
Simply swipe or scan your card at the checkout and collect 1 Nectar point per £1 at any of our stores across the UK.

Points can also be collected when shopping from the restaurant in store. Hand your Nectar card to the cashier when paying.

You are unable to collect Nectar points on savings stamps, spirits and liqueurs, car park tickets, vending machines, cashback, postage stamps, Sainsbury's gift vouchers/cards, first stage baby milk products, National Lottery products and related, tobacco and related products, LloydsPharmacy products, mobile phone cards/vouchers, concessions or in any Sainsbury’s Local in partnership with Euro Garages.

From time to time we may exclude other products but we'll always let you know.

See here for further info

Spend
To spend your points, you’ll need to have shopped in a store (24 hours after your first shop and within 12 months), simply present your card when paying and let the cashier know you want to use your points. Points can be spent in blocks of 500 (£2.50).

If it’s your first time shopping in a different store, you may need to let Nectar know first for security reasons before you spend your points. Our colleagues in store will walk you through this or you can do this at the customer service desk (or petrol kiosk). You’ll need to speak to Nectar on the phone and confirm some security details.

It may take a little longer than it would in your ‘home’ or regular store but you’ll be able to use your well earned points.

We're working on making this easier in the future.
