Accessibility statement for Sainsbury’s groceries online

Sainsbury’s groceries website accessibility

This page explains what we are doing to support assistive technology users and customers with cognitive accessibility needs using the Sainsbury’s grocery website.

It covers:

•            How we test for accessibility

•            Known issues

•            Reporting an issue

How the website was tested

We review designs and use accessibility testing tools to identify and fix accessibility issues on an ongoing basis.

This website was also manually tested by Digital Accessibility Centre in June 2025 focusing on a typical customer journey for a grocery delivery: from logging in to checking out.

Known issues

We would like to make you aware of the following issues and workarounds.

Screen readers

•  Eco-delivery slots are communicated visually but not communicated to screen readers. For assistance with booking an eco-friendly delivery slot contact the Careline.

•  The ‘Groceries’ drop-down menu can only be accessed on the search page. While we get this fixed you can access the menu by searching for a product (on any page) and then navigating to the Groceries dropdown menu on the search results page.

•  The ‘skip links’ navigation is not available on mobile web version of the website which displayed on mobile phones or when using browser magnification on a desktop or laptop.

Keyboard only navigation

• The ‘Groceries’ drop-down menu can only be accessed on the search page. You can access the menu by searching for a product (on any page) and then navigating to the Groceries dropdown menu on the search results page.

•  The mobile web version of the website, which will be displayed on mobile phones or when zoomed into the browser using browser magnification on a desktop or laptop.

• It is not possible to select a day from the first month from the book a slot calendar. To book a slot for the current month you can enter the date manually using the format DD/MM/YYY or use the “7 days >” button next to the calendar.

Voice navigation

• Many interactive elements have additional non-visual supplementary accessible names which mean these elements cannot be referred to by their visual label. Most dictation software will support grid and number navigation if natural language voice commands do not work.

Low vision, zoom and magnification

•  Some text, button and link colour combinations have a lower contrast level which can make them hard to see. You can try using the Groceries mobile phone app in dark mode instead or contact the Careline for help placing your order.

• Some pages do not currently respect personalised device or browser font size settings: product pages like this, choose delivery page, book a slot page, and the ‘slot reserved page’. It is recommended to use system magnification or browser zoom on these pages.

• When using browser zoom the cookie banner information can become clipped. It is recommended to use system magnification instead of browser zoom for the cookie banner.

Concentrating, remembering and understating information

•  The website uses bright colours that may be distracting or overwhelming. Alternatively customers can try using the Android or Apple mobile apps in dark mode or applying high contrast mode, invert colours of other operating system settings on your device.

•  There are some animations for example when scrolling the menu animates to the top of the page and when you opt in to Nectar Offers. You can disable animations using ‘reduced motion’ and other similar operating system settings on your device
