What is SmartShop and how does it work?
SmartShop is an in-store shopping app that lets you scan as you go! This means you'll be able to skip the checkout queues and be on your way in no time.
Getting started couldn't be easier! Register by downloading the SmartShop app:

Once you've registered on the SmartShop app, all you need to do is shop, scan and bag your products then skip the queues and pay instantly by heading towards our SmartShop checkouts when you're done.

Yes, as long as you have an Apple (iOS 8.0 or later) and Android (Jellybean or later) phone you can download the SmartShop app, register and begin building your shopping list at home.

To download the app on the Google Play Store click hereYes. simply head to the SmartShop area in-store, tap on a handset to release it and scan your Nectar card to start a shop.
No, you can use your 3G/4G connection or you can use the free in-store customer Wi-Fi to make sure you stay connected around the store and have the best shopping experience. You will need to accept the T&C's the first time you use it and after that, you'll automatically connect to the in-store customer Wi-Fi each time you enter the store. Just make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your phone.
Ordinary carrier bags, as well as reusable bags, are available to pick up throughout the store. Just scan the barcode on them as you would with any other items in your SmartShop.
Yes, if you're in a store where handsets are available, your list will appear when you use a store handset.
Yes, you need to scan each item individually to make sure that you pay the correct amount. For example, if a product is on a buy one get one free promotion, both products should be scanned. If you are purchasing a variety of flavours from the same range, please scan each item individually.
For items that are loose and don't have a barcode, check the shelf ticket for a specific bar code to scan.
If you pick up fruit or vegetables that need to be weighed, please use the weighing scales in the fruit and vegetable aisle to get a barcode sticker and then simply scan that.
Currently, we can't sell any of the following with SmartShop: tobacco products, Lotto or Health Lottery tickets, gift cards, postage stamps, mobile phone top-ups or any PayPoint products.
Some products are tagged with security tags – visible or invisible – and need authorisation because of age restrictions. Your handset will let you know so just pop it to one side when you get to the checkout and a colleague will help you.
If you have trouble scanning something, just keep it to one side and a colleague will be happy to help you at checkout.
Don't worry – simply press 'remove the item' on your handset and then scan the barcode
To remove an item, just swipe all the way from right to left on the item you want to remove. You'll then be taken to a scan screen where you need to scan the item you want to delete. Finally, don't forget to place the item back on the shelf.
On a handset: To delete an item from your basket, swipe left on the item and then scan the item's barcode again. On a mobile phone: To delete an item from your basket, swipe left on the item. To change the quantity of an item, tap on it in your basket screen. Remember to put any items you have deleted back on the shelf
To delete an item from your list, swipe left on the item. To add an item, use the '+' sign at the bottom of the list page.
To help make sure you haven't overcharged yourself or missed anything off, we'll sometimes rescan a bag of shopping. These checks will happen from time to time.
Sometimes customers can double scan an item by mistake, or an item might end up in your trolley that hasn't been scanned properly. So from time to time, we might ask you to have your shopping re-scanned by one of our colleagues. These rescans are random and they'll only happen at checkout.
You can open and use other apps while shopping in-store. When you're ready, just go back to the SmartShop app to carry on where you left off.
You can answer a call or reply to a text message while using the SmartShop app without losing your shop. When you're ready, just go back to the SmartShop app to carry on where you left off.
You can carry on where you left off as long as you reopen the SmartShop app within 1 hour and you are in the same store where you started your SmartShop.
The SmartShop app will warn you when your battery starts to run low. At this point, if you only have a few more items to get, you'll still be able to finish your shop using your phone. If you want to spend a bit more time shopping, some of our SmartShop stores have extra handsets which you can use. A colleague can help you transfer your shop to one of our SmartShop handsets and you'll be able to carry on where you left off.
Yes, you can redeem coupons as normal when you check out.
Yes, you still get Nectar coupons when you check out with SmartShop.
Yes, you still get Nectar coupons when you check out with SmartShop.
Whether you are using a SmartShop handset or the SmartShop app on your mobile phone, you can pay at a dedicated card-only SmartShop checkout or at a self-checkout that is SmartShop enabled (varies between stores). If you are smart shopping in a convenience store using the SmartShop app on an iPhone, you may be able to pay with Apple Pay and avoid the checkouts completely (available in selected stores, see store signs).
