Sainsbury's Gift Card Terms and Conditions

 From March 2021 our Gift Card Terms and Conditions will be changing. This will change how the expiry of a Gift Card or eGift Card is extended. Previously, the expiry could be extended via a balance check or redemption in-store.  From March 2021 only the load and reload of funds to a Gift Card will extend the expiry by two years from that date. 

Sainsbury's Gift cards

  1. Gift Cards purchased in a Sainsbury’s stores must be activated before use, this will be done by the colleague at the till at the point of payment or at self-checkout.
  2. Gift Cards can be purchased within other retailers authorised to sell Sainsbury’s Gift Cards.  The terms and conditions detailed below apply to such Gift Cards.
  3. Gift Cards can be provided through our Business Services via loyalty, reward or benefits programmes.  The terms and conditions detailed below apply to such Gift Cards.
  4. All Sainsbury’s Gift Cards are non-refundable.
  5. Sainsbury’s Gift Cards may be redeemed in full or part payment at Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd stores.
  6. Gift Cards can only be used in-store, they cannot be used for purchases online, via the Sainsbury’s App or over the phone.
  7. Gift Cards cannot be used at Sainsbury’s Petrol Stations, in the pharmacy, any concession within Sainsbury’s or at any Sainsbury’s concession within third party retailers.  
  8. Gift Cards are not a credit, payment or cheque guarantee card, cannot be redeemed for cash, for Sainsbury's Bank products, services, credit card balances and cannot be resold or re-tendered. This does not affect your statutory rights.
  9. Sainsbury’s may exclude specific products from purchase via Gift Card, please refer to https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/products/about-sainsburys-giftcard for the full listing. Sainsbury's reserves the right to amend this list at any time.
  10. If the entire balance of a Gift Card is not spent in one transaction, the remaining balance will remain available on the Gift Card for future use. The Gift Card balance will be printed on the till receipt after each use.
  11. Gift Cards are valid for 24 months from last transaction.  If inactive for 24 months any remaining balance on a Gift Card will expiry and will be lost.
  12. The initial and subsequent balances can be checked, or additional funds loaded up to £750, at checkouts instore. If your card is provided by our Business Services, then please utilise the alternative options available to you to load further value to your card.
  13. Treat the card as cash and retain any balance receipt as they cannot be replaced if lost, damaged or stolen.  Sainsbury’s is not responsible for any unauthorised use of this card.
  14. You can manage your Gift Card by registering at https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/products/about-sainsburys-giftcardRegistering allows you to check the balance for the Gift Card at any time.
  15. Any funds loaded to a Gift Card are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. In the unlikely event of the issuer of this product becoming insolvent some or all funds held on any Gift Card issued may not be available to be spent.
  16. Sainsbury’s reserve the right to decline or withdraw Gift Cards, the right to amend these terms and conditions for Gift Card at any time and to take appropriate action, including the cancellation of the Gift Card, if, in its reasonable opinion it deems such action necessary.

 

 Sainsbury’s eGift Cards

  1. eGift Cards can be purchased from https://www.sainsburysgiftcard.co.uk/.  The terms and conditions detailed below apply to any eGift Card issued from this site.
  2. eGift Cards can be provided through our Business Services via loyalty, reward or benefits programmes.  The terms and conditions detailed below apply to such eGift Cards.
  3. All Sainsbury’s eGift Cards are non-refundable
  4. Sainsbury’s eGift Cards may be redeemed in full or part payment for goods at Sainsbury’s Supermarket Ltd
  5. eGift Cards can only be used in-store or online at www.sainsburys.co.uk for Sainsbury’s Online Groceries only.
  6. eGift Cards cannot be used for purchases over the phone, via the Sainsbury’s App, at Sainsbury’s Petrol Stations, in the pharmacy, any concession within Sainsbury’s or at any Sainsbury’s concession within third party retailers.

  10. The value of an eGift Card expires on the date shown on the eGift Card, which is 24 months from the date of initial activation. If unused within this time the card will be deemed inactive and any remaining balance lost.
  11. Treat an eGift Card as cash as it cannot be replaced if lost, damaged or stolen.  Sainsbury’s is not responsible for any unauthorised use of an eGift Card.
  12. You can manage your eGift Card by registering at https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/products/about-sainsburys-giftcard.  Registering allows you to check the balance of the eGift Card at any time.
  13. Any funds on an eGift Card are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. In the unlikely event of the issuer of this product becoming insolvent some or all funds on any eGift Card held may not be available to be spent.

Paper Gift Vouchers

  1. Gift Vouchers issued by Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd, 33 Holborn, London, EC1N 2HT can be exchanged for goods of your choice from any Sainsbury’s store to the value indicated on the face of the voucher.  
  2. The gift voucher is only valid in Sainsbury’s stores and cannot be redeemed online at www.sainsburys.co.uk, in Sainsbury’s Petrol Stations, in the pharmacy, in any concession within Sainsbury’s or any Sainsbury’s concession within a third party retailer.  
  3. Branded Gift Cards, Scratch cards, LPG AUTOGAS, Pay Point products and services, Stage 1 Infant formula, Tobacco and related products, BT phonecards, E TOP-UP Savings stamps, Postage stamps, National Lottery products, Online Delivery charges, Concession coffee shops, Travel Money, restaurants or vending machine purchases cannot be purchased with Gift Vouchers. 
  4. Change will not be given on any purchase and the gift voucher may not be exchanged for cash.  
  5. Gift Vouchers have an expiry date which is printed on the back of the voucher. If unused within this time the Gift Voucher will be deemed expired and the value lost.
  6. Sainsbury’s is not responsible for any unauthorised use of a Gift Voucher and reserves the right to amend the terms & conditions of this service at any time.
