About Sainsbury's Gift Card

Sainsbury’s Gift Cards and eGift Cards can be used to purchase products in all Sainsbury's stores, including TU clothing and homeware, as well as in Sainsbury’s coffee shops.  Physical Gift Cards are currently unable to be redeemed online.  However, eGift Cards can be redeemed online, click here for eGift Card help and support.

A Sainsbury’s Gift Card is the perfect gift for all those special occasions including birthdays, weddings and anniversaries.  It's also great for those hard-to-buy-for occasions like thanking your child's teacher at the end of the term.

Gift Cards are available in all our stores for you to purchase, you'll find them on the Gift Card fixture in most Supermarkets but if you're struggling to locate them please ask one of our team in store for help.  Once you have chosen from the range of designs available, take the card of your choice to the checkout in store and load any amount from £1 to £750.

We also have our Volunteer Shopping Card available online if you are unable to visit a store at present, visit https://sainsburysgiftcard.co.uk/ to purchase as required.

When spending a Gift Card or eGift Card you can use this to make full or part payment for your shopping.  Any remaining balance unspent can be saved for a future shop as funds remain available on the card until the expiry. Physical Gift Cards are re-useable and can be reloaded as often as you like!

From March 2021 our Gift Card Terms and Conditions will be changing. This will change how the expiry of a Gift Card or eGift Card is extended.  Previously, the expiry could be extended via a balance check or redemption in-store.  From March 2021 only the load and reload of funds to a Gift Card will extend the expiry by two years from that date.

 

Exclusions:

Sainsbury's Gift Cards and eGift Card can be used to purchase most products at Sainsbury’s. As part of our Terms and Conditions, the following products and categories cannot be purchased with a Sainsbury's Gift Card or eGift Card:

  • Branded Gift Cards
  • All lottery related products
  • PayPoint products and services
  • Stage 1 Infant Formula milk
  • Tobacco and related products
  • Postage stamps
  • All in store concessions
  • Petrol and Diesel
  • Mobile phone top ups
  • Online delivery charges
  • Travel Money

You can manage your Gift Card or eGift Card online by registering your card hereIf you have already registered click here to log into your account.

Once you register your card, you will have access to an online account facility where you will have the following functions: -

  • Balance enquiry
  • Transaction history
  • Block your card if lost or stolen

 

Top – Up

Sainsbury’s physical Gift Cards can have additional funds loaded up to the value of £750 at checkouts in-store.


Balance Check

The best way to check your balance would be to register your card as detailed above.

However, there are some option options available to you:

  • If your   physical Gift Card has a QR code on the back of the card., you can scan this QR code with a smart phone device and follow the link provided to confirm your current card balance and expiry date of your card.
  • You can check the balance of a Gift Card or eGift Card via our automated phone line on 0800 636262 you will need the 19-digit card number and PIN for this process.
  • You can also ask a store colleague at the till to complete a balance check.  Note, we will also provide you with a receipt after each transaction to confirm the balance.

 

 

There are two methods of redeeming your eGift Card: In Store and Online at www.sainsburys.co.uk

  1. Redemption In-Store 

eGift Cards can be redeemed from a smart phone device or printed and taken in to store. Product exclusions apply.

After each use In-Store any remaining balance on the eGift Card will be printed on a receipt.  It is the recipient's responsibility to retain the receipt as evidence of their outstanding balance.

There is no limit to the number of eGift Cards that can be used per transaction, but eGift Cards cannot exceed a total of £250 per transaction.

If items are returned to store in accordance with our refund policy https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/refunds-returns/what-is-refund-policy, any refund due will be credited to your eGift Card.

 

 2.Online Redemption at www.sainsburys.co.uk.

eGift Cards can be redeemed at Sainsbury’s Online Groceries only. The maximum value that may be redeemed by a customer in one online grocery transaction is £50.   Product exclusions apply. 

The use of our online grocery delivery service requires registration.  eGift Card holders must register at Sainsburys.co.uk and accept the terms and conditions and privacy policy.  Minimum online order value of £25 applies.  Online delivery fees apply.  An eGift Card cannot be used to pay for delivery charges.  

Dependent on card balance, you may use the eGift Card to deduct a maximum £50 from your shopping total.  Any remaining balance must be paid for using the payment card linked to your online groceries account.

To use the eGift Card online at Sainsburys.co.uk it must be converted to an online coupon. 

  • To convert, enter your unique eGift Card number, starting 63417535, and PIN at checkout. 
  • If a valid card number and PIN has been used, you will be asked to manually enter how much you wish to convert.
  • If you convert only part of your eGift Card balance you will be asked to provide your valid card number and PIN on any future conversions.
  • Once converted, your outstanding balance will be held online and can be found in your coupon wallet at checkout. 
  • Your online coupon held in your coupon wallet will expire 24 months after first conversion. 
  • We will not provide an expiry reminder.

If goods are out of stock on your booked grocery delivery date Sainsbury’s will offer a substitute unless you tell us not to.  If, as a result of substitutes, the value of your order drops below the value of your converted eGift Card applied to that transaction then the converted eGift Card payment will be used for the full value of your basket (excluding delivery charge).  The balance will be credited to your Sainsbury’s online grocery coupon wallet as a new coupon to be used against an online grocery shop at Sainsbury’s within 24 months of conversion.

If items are returned to store in accordance with our refund policy, https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/refunds-returns/what-is-refund-policy, any refund due will be credited to your Sainsbury’s online grocery coupon wallet.

  • Pick up a Meal Ticket in store – you'll find them on the main Gift Card fixture in most supermarkets
  • Load the card with the desired amount at the till and keep the 'Parent' card
  • Give the 'Student' card to the recipient to spend in any Sainsbury's store
  • Reload the card at any time in-store
  • The Meal Ticket is not a credit or debit card, so your child can only spend what's on the card

Sainsbury’s gift cards can be redeemed at Smart Shop, however gift cards cannot be purchased using Smart Shop.

No, but there's a selection of envelopes for sale on the main gift card fixture in most supermarkets.

Once you've purchased something with your card, you'll be given a till receipt and a gift card statement that will show your opening and closing balance. You can also ask someone at a Sainsbury's till or customer service desk to swipe your card to find out the balance. You can also check your balance at any till or manage online at My Account

No, you can't pay off your Credit Card with a gift card.

Yes, you can. The remaining balance will remain on the card for 24 months from the last transaction.
